"Make voyages. Attempt them. There's nothing else." Tennessee Williams
Yes, I've heard all the blond jokes! I guess naming my business "A Blond and Her Boat" opened the flood gates. Luckily, I have a sense of humor.
One thing I'm quite serious about, however, is my passion for fishing and the outdoors. And, it has truly become one of my missions in life to encourage more participation in fishing--especially from women. I was blessed to have wonderful parents who introduced me to the pastime. My husband, Jim, is one of the most adept anglers I've ever met; we've spent many lovely days wetting lines and enjoying sunsets. I've also built a wide circle of friends--both women and men--it is a privilege to spend time on the water together.
Not all women are that lucky. I hope to change that. I hope to serve as an inspiration, encouragement, and motivation. Why do we want more women on the water? Well...if MOM fishes, so will the family. I believe the future of fishing lies in the hands of mothers. And, as corny as it sounds...I also believe "couples that fish together, stay together." It's an amazing bond--appreciating Mother Nature and enjoying experiences that are unparalleled in other facets of life.
How do I hope to accomplish this mission? Well, over the years I've worked together with other outfitters to offer all-women's, couples, and mixed group trips. Check out the A Blond & Her Boat Group Fishing Trips page for details. I've also offered traditional guided casting packages out of my Crestliner Fishhawk or row trolling trips out of my rowboat. A tremendous amount of travel (via my writing endeavors and my husband's career) has me scaling back on my guiding, however, if I'm not available I do my best to find a replacement.
As an outdoor writer, many of my features revolve around encouraging more female participation in the outdoors. I enjoy profiling other guides, interesting characters or techniques, and conservation related topics. I diligently try to educate and inspire folks from all walks of life--male, female, young or old-- to step outside and play. In addition to mainstream fishing publications, I've expanded out to travel destination and other non-industry periodicals; reaching a wider audience. *If you have an outdoor topic or event you'd like to see covered, please don't hesitate to contact me.
I continue to present seminars to a variety of groups on a variety of themes. Booking information can be obtained by contacting me via email.
And, I have a few new projects up my sleeves; look for more on those down the road...

**There is a common thread everywhere--folks with an affinity for the outdoors. I have found great joy fishing the deep reservoirs in Arkansas, Canadian shield lakes, bayous in Louisiana, and turquoise waters of Florida. I enjoy hiking and biking along boardwalks or rustic trails, snorkeling among coral reefs, driving my old Bronco down a country lane, hunting through dense woodlands in search of ruffed grouse, or canoeing a meandering river. Life, and this great country of ours, is full of outdoor opportunities. Find your passions and follow them. Share your knowledge and be open to the new experiences other outdoorsmen can offer. Step outside your neighborhood, outside your comfort level...step outside and PLAY! Scale the Adirondacks! Catch a trophy tarpon! Or, just enjoy the pleasant solitude of hiking a backcountry trail. The tonic of wilderness is needed now more than ever. Life is truly an amazing adventure.**
