Trollers will LOVE this tackle box!! Called The Extreme, it is made by Lakewood Tackle in Wisconsin.
18" tall compartments (4.5" x 4.5" wide) hold the biggest crankbaits--keeping them dry and organized.
Casters will also benefit from this box by hanging their huge bucktails in here (much drier and more organized than plopping them horizontally in a plastic box).
It is so tough you can use it as a seat or a casting platform.

Cortland Mono is my preferred choice of line for row trolling.
It's tough and durable, yet pliable enough to tie knots with.

There is certainly something in angling/row trolling* that seems to produce a gentleness of spirit and aspires serenity of mind.   Washington Irving/PStrutz*

Thanks to my buddy, Juris Ozols, for sharing all his wonderful photos with us. Juris, we all appreciate your skill and passion!

Croonin' Crandall (Geoff) always pens and sings a special song or two at the event...here's one of my favorites:
MAMAS DON'T LET YOUR BABIES GROW UP AND BE ROW TROLLERS

(Lyrics)
Mamas don't let your babies grow up to be row trollers
Don't let 'em troll hookers and drive them old trucks
Have them fish bluegills and crappies and such
Mamas don't let your babies grow up to be row trollers
They'll never stay home and they'll fish thru a storm
Even with lightnin' above. (Lyrics end)

Muskies ain't easy to catch--especially in cold
They'd rather gouge you, than wiggle free from your hold
With beat up plows, sledges--sunrise begins a new day
If you troll up and release her and she don't die young
Those esox may get big some day

Lyrics

Trollers like spoonplugs and built in mahogany cabinets
True runnin' deep divers and big beckman nets
Them that don't know trollers--don't like 'em
them that do--can't get along with 'em
As hard as they troll and as much as they spend
Wouldn't ya think the muskies would show up now and again?

Lyrics

Special thanks to the man who introduced me to this sport,
my friend Tom Stark.
Top Ten Reasons to Row Troll for Muskies

1. Motor trolling is illegal in certain areas (such as our neck of the woods in Northern Wisconsin)

2. Row trolling can be more efficient than motor trolling because there is no noise or water disruption from the motor. This is especially helpful in gin clear water.

3. Small row boats can gain access to many lakes where motors are not allowed. Oftentimes, these lakes have had little fishing pressure resulting in a plentitude of "lure dumb" fish.

4. Row trolling is more constructive than drifting because the speed and direction of the boat can be controlled. This is extremely important when fish are finicky.

5. It is environment friendly. There is no gas or oil to affect the aquatic bug or weedlife. There is also no noise pollution.

6. Peace, solitude, and serenity are offered to anglers seeking respite from the buzz of city life.

7. Row trolling can produce when a slower presentation is required. In frigid water the fish's metabolism slows down and they tend to be lethargic. They may respond to a 1 mph row trolled bait much better than a series of quicker casted retrieves.

8. Rowing is a wonderful sport all on it's own. Catching a fish is just the icing on the cake! It provides fantastic exercise and when coupled with trolling if offers the satisfaction of working toward a goal. In this respect it is much more interactive-both physically and mentally, than motor trolling.

9. It is an efficient way to access suspended muskies. When the waterskiers and waverunners take over the periphery of the lake, row trolling the deep water in the center offers a unique fishing opportunity.

10. It is a great way to keep warm when chasing lunkers on a blustery November afternoon!

High of 16 degrees with blustery, Northwest winds. This day forced many area guides and
their clients to cancel their outings but while row trolling we were kept snug as a bug!

Blond Rowboat Joke:

Two blondes were driving along a road by a wheat field when they saw a

blond in the middle of the field (no water in sight) rowing a row boat. The driver blond

turned to her friend and said "You know - it's blondes like that that

give us a bad name!" To this, the other blond replies "I know it, and

if I knew how to swim, I'd go out there and drown her."
